This is a list of patches, code samples, and file updates which are available for various Netscape software products, along with instructions for how to get them.

Here is a list of the patches available below:

Operating system files

Client software files

Server software files

If a product isn't listed here, then there may not be any patches available for it yet. You can probably download the latest version of the software from the Download Netscape Software page.

AIX Patch

Before installing any of our server products on an AIX 3.2.5, 4.1 or 4.2 system, you must first install the "AIX Shared Library Hookable Symbols/6000 Version 1.1.5.0, Reference RPQ No. P91153." If you don't have the patch, you will see an error similar to this one when you try to install Netscape server software:

  > ./ns-setup
0509-037 System error - error data is: ./ns-setup
  0509-022 Cannot load library libsvld.a[shr.o].
0509-026 System error: A file or directory in the path name does not exist.

You can download the AIX PRPQ patch from this URL:

Contact IBM for help if you have trouble obtaining or installing the patch.

Also, you can download many current AIX patches directly from IBM at "http://aix.software.ibm.com/aix.us/fixes/".

Solaris Patches

The "SunService Public Patch Page" is located at "http://sunsolve.sun.com/sunsolve/pubpatches/patches.html"; if you're running Solaris, it would be wise for you to check this page and make sure you have a recent set of patches installed.

Enterprise Server 3.0 updates

You can upgrade any previous version of Enterprise Server 3.0 to the latest patch level.

You must apply patches that correspond to the encryption level of your server. Strong encryption versions of the patches are available but require the completing of a Netscape U.S.-Only Software Eligibility Affidavit. For 40-bit level encryption servers, use the following patches:

Solaris:

  • 3.0j patch
Warning, the file no longer exists at Netscape
  • 3.0j readme file
Warning, the file no longer exists at Netscape

Windows NT:

  • 3.0i patch
Warning, the file no longer exists at Netscape
  • 3.0i readme file
Warning, the file no longer exists at Netscape

Enterprise Server WAI patch

This patch release fixes and improves the WAI programming interface to the Enterprise Server in the following ways:

  • osagent is no longer required to be running.
  • WAI server plug-ins are officially supported.
  • You can use OAD to activate your WAI applications. (Note that OAD will start only out-of-process WAI applications in C/C++ only and is not supported on Windows NT.)

The WAI patch is available for Netscape Enterprise Server on Solaris and Windows NT.

Before you install this patch, make sure you've installed the latest Enterprise Server patch.

  1. Shut down your web server.
  2. Stop any WAI object servers.
  3. Move or rename your existing wai directory (for example, you can change the directory name "wai" to "oldwai").
  4. Copy the tar or zip file to your server root directory (for example, /usr/netscape/suitespot on UNIX or C:\Netscape\SuiteSpot on Windows NT).
  5. Untar or unzip the file in the server root directory. This should extract the updated files and place them in the proper directories.
  6. Make sure the wai directory is owned by the user id used to run your web server.
  7. Restart your server.
  8. Restart your WAI object servers.

Effectively, this patch upgrades the Enterprise Server to use the 3.01 version of WAI. For details on the changes between WAI in 3.0 and 3.01, see the Enterprise Server Developer Notes and the online manual "Writing Web Applications With WAI".

Enterprise Server scheduled updates patch

This patch will let you schedule updates to your search collections (so new files will be added to the collections) in Enterprise Server 3.0. Previously, Enterprise Server 3.0 would only reindex files already in its collections; it would not add any new files to them.

Installing this patch will give you an "Update" option under the "Schedule Collection Maintenance" and "Remove Scheduled Collection Maintenance" options on the "Agents and Search" admin page. The update will take a wildcard and an option whether to recurse subdirectories for the update.

For more details, see the readme file which comes with the patch.

Enterprise Server Web Publishing patch

This patch updates the Web Publisher software (in Enterprise Server 3.0 and 3.01) to version 1.02a. It corrects several Web Publisher bugs, and includes various internationalization and performance enhancements.

Enterprise Server patch to run under the root account on AIX

This patch release fixes the bug described below:

Summary: Web server user in multiple groups causes problems if started by root.

Detail: If the web server is started up by root, but the user the server will run as is a member of multiple OS groups, then these server processes cannot access files, they can only access by the auxiliary groups.

Certificate Server patch for Internet Explorer support

A patch is available for Netscape Certificate Server to allows users of Microsoft Internet Explorer to request and import certificates from Netscape Certificate Server 1.0x. This patch supports all Certificate Server Unix and NT platforms.

Calendar Server 1.01

A patch is available to upgrade Calendar Server 1.0 to version 1.01. Please be sure to download both the appropriate patch for your Unix operating system and the readme file for instructions on upgrading.

Proxy Server 2.52 and 2.53 upgrades

Unix:

SURF-Pack 3 (Supplemental Upgrade and Required Fixes) is available to fix problems with Netscape Proxy Server 2.5 on all Unix operating systems. This patch will upgrade Netscape Proxy Server version 2.52 to version 2.53 (if you are currently using version 2.5 or 2.51, you will have to install SURF-Pack 2 first; see below for details). The readme and release notes for this patch can be found on the Proxy Server Readmes/Release Notes page.

If you downloaded your copy of Netscape Proxy Server from the Test-Drive server recently, then you may already have the latest version and you don't need to install this patch. You can find out exactly what version of Netscape Proxy Server you have by going into the "ns-home/bin/proxy" directory and running the command "ns-proxy -v".

You can get the domestic version of the SURF-Pack 3 patch after completing the Netscape U.S.-Only Software Eligibility Affidavit, or an export version here:

If you are currently running Proxy Server 2.5 or 2.51, you will need to install SURF-Pack 2 before you can install SURF-Pack 3. You can get the domestic version of the SURF-Pack 2 patch after completing the Netscape U.S.-Only Software Eligibility Affidavit, or an export version here:

Windows NT:

SURF-Pack 2 is available for Windows NT. This patch will upgrade Netscape Proxy Server version 2.51 to version 2.52. The readme and release notes for this patch can be found on the Proxy Server Readmes/Release Notes page (and are also available here for SURF-Pack 1 and for SURF-Pack 2). The patch can be downloaded from:

If you are currently running Proxy Server 2.5, you will need to install SURF-Pack 1 before you can install SURF-Pack 2. You can get the SURF-Pack 1 patch from:

AIX 4.2 Proxy Server defunct process patch

If you're experiencing defunct processes when running Proxy 2.5x with IBM AIX 4.2, we recommend that you install the files from this patch. The tar archive contains the following files:

  • ns-proxy (put this in "ns-home/bin/proxy/ns-proxy")
  • sitemon (put this in "ns-home/extras/proxy/sitemon")
  • throttle (put this in "ns-home/extras/proxy/throttle")

Make sure your Proxy Server is stopped when you replace the old "ns-proxy" and "sitemon" files with the new ones. You may also want to move the old files to a safe out-of-the-way place so you can revert to them if anything goes wrong.

Catalog Server 1.01 patch 1

The latest version of Netscape Catalog Server 1.01 is 1.01p1. This patch release fixes the most common and severe known bugs in the Catalog Server and should be applied to versions 1.0 and 1.01.

The patch contains replacements for several executable files. It should not require any manual editing of existing configuration files or scripts.

The following is a list of the bug fixes incorporated in this patch (read the Readme for complete details):

  • Corrects the robot's handling of URLs that exclude the trailing slash. This also corrects most problems with relative path names and documents in frames.
  • Replaces many document conversion filters, including those for Microsoft PowerPoint 7.0 and Adobe PDF 2.01.
  • The robot will no longer filter out files with the text/plain content type and an extension not in the robot's mime.types file.
  • Catalog users' last-modified queries in the non-Java search interface are now handled correctly.
  • The robot is now case-insensitive for DNS lookups related to filter rules. For example, it won't block www.NETSCAPE.com if the rule allows www.netscape.com.
  • The Catalog Server version is updated in the 'About Server' page.
  • The Schedule Statistics feature works correctly.

If you have a US domestic ("not for export") copy of Netscape Catalog Server 1.0 or 1.01 on CD, then you may download the domestic 128-bit encryption version of 1.01p1 after completing the Netscape U.S.-Only Software Eligibility Affidavit. (If you downloaded the Catalog Server software, then you do not have the domestic version.)

If you have an export ("contains export-grade security") or evaluation copy of Netscape Catalog Server 1.0 or 1.01 (either on CD or as a file you downloaded), then you can download the patch here (but be sure to read the Readme first):

Also, if you are running on AIX, make sure you read the information at the top of this page about an AIX patch which you might need.

Server-Side JavaScript Compiler 21.9

A new version (21.9) of the Server-Side JavaScript Compiler is available for Solaris and for Windows NT. This new version is intended to be used by customers who were having compilation problems with large applications under earlier versions of the compiler.

ChangePW source code

The changepw utility and source code were inadvertently left out of the distribution of some of the Netscape 2.0 server products. You can download the Windows NT and Unix versions of the changepw files if you would like to use them. (If you already have them, you will find them under your Netscape root directory in "extras/database".)

Note that you only need to download these files if you have Enterprise Server 2.0. Enterprise Server 2.01 and 3.0 both come with these files.

PATCH FOR NETSCAPE LIVEWIRE CUSTOMERS
USING INFORMIX ONLINE WORKGROUP SERVER 7.12.TC5 and LATER

Netscape LiveWire's database access libraries with FastTrack and Enterprise Server 2.01 or earlier require certain Informix DLLs to be available. Customers having purchased Informix Online Workgroup Server 7.12.TC5 directly from Informix will find that two required DLLs are missing as only later versions are provided which have different names.

If you receive the following message when trying to connect to an Informix database via Netscape LiveWire:
