Technical note: 10204 Created: 07/21/95 by Brian Last modified: 08/08/95 by Brian Product: Netscape Navigator Operating system: Macintosh
When you use the Macintosh version of the Netscape Navigator 1.1 (or 1.1N) over a SLIP connection, you may experience various crashes, hangs, and other problems. We have released a patch for this that contains revised networking code intended to help your SLIP connections be more stable. It will probably not have any effect on PPP or direct networking connections. You can obtain the patch from this URL:1.1N slip patchThe patch applies only to the Netscape Navigator 1.1N (the evaluation version) on a Macintosh. If you have purchased version 1.1 of the Netscape Navigator and you need this patch, then you should download the Netscape Navigator 1.1N from netscape.1command.com and use the evaluation version after applying the patch to it. The reason that the patch won't apply to version 1.1 of the Navigator is that the patcher application checks all of the resources in the application it´s patching, and it complains if the version string isn't "1.1N". (Note that versions 1.1 and 1.1N of the Netscape Navigator are completely identical except for the version number.) To find out if your copy of the Navigator has been patched or not, click once on the "Netscape" program icon and choose "Get Info" from the File menu. If the "Modified" date that appears isJune 20, 1995, then you have the patched version. This fix will also be included in future versions of the Netscape Navigator.
