How the Navigator finds the "Netscape Preferences" file
  Technical note: 10205
  Created: 08/11/95 by Brian
  Product: Netscape Navigator
  Operating system: Macintosh
When you start up the Netscape Navigator on a Macintosh system, it
first looks for its preferences file in this location:

  System Folder:Preferences:Netscape f:Netscape Preferences

(Note that "System Folder" is the currently-active system folder, and
the ´f´ in "Netscape f" is the fancy "option-f" character.)

If there is no "Netscape f" folder in the "Preferences" folder, it
will look for a "Netscape f" folder in the same folder as the Netscape
application itself is located. If it can't find one there either,
then it will create a new "Netscape f" folder in "Preferences".

Therefore, if you wanted to have several different configurations of
the Netscape Navigator on your Mac for some reason, you could create a
separate folder for each installation and put a copy of the Netscape
application (or an alias to it) and a copy of the "Netscape f" folder
into each separate folder.
